Prepare screenshots of entire documents

Sometimes, you need screenshots
of the contents of large windows, like,
for example, an entire webpage. Though
greatly reducing the zoom level will bring
the contents onto the screen, it renders
them unreadable. The tool FastStone
Capture however captures complete
documents in one step.

The free version, which is suffi cient
in most cases, can be found at www.
faststone.org. After the program starts,
click on the Settings icon to the right
in the small dialogue. In the “Output
folder” field, define the target folder for
storing the file, and the “Output format”.
Miscellaneous specifications for keyboard
shortcuts, mouse pointer or a delay,
among other things, are also configurable
in this section. Confirm with “OK”. The
combination field to the left sets the
target. Here, adjust the setting “To Editor”
in order to be able to check and re-work the result.
This software is particularly important
for screenshots of oversized windows.
To take screenshots of large windows,
select “Capture Scrolling Window” and
click on the desired area indicated by the
red border. FastStone browses through
the window till the end and generates
an overall image. However, this does not
work with every program and assumes
that the coverage ends where the
scrollbars end. In the browser, you should
mask all borders as far as possible or use
Internet Explorer for website screenshots.
Your images might be partially cut off
or begin only from the current position,
which is why you should sometimes
experiment a bit.
